FIRST PRESENTATIONS on place with subcategories of outside architecture, interior architecture and nature shoots.
(due between Oct, 10-16)
There will be 6 themes that you should be familiar with in the course of studying photography here at South. Find images of each during the course of the semester.
place, people, movement/still life ,lighting, stories, culture/family
Course Expectations:
1. Presentations- You will become proficient in presenting your photography in formal and non-formal methods. These methods range from critiques, show and tell of essential photography assignments, small and large group discussions and power point presentations that articulate a range of ideas and work.
2. Loading and Altering Digital Images: You will become proficient in transferring images to the computer and altering them with programs such as Photoshop and Lightroom 4. These are professional tools that artist, photographer and designers use to fix, tweak and enhance their images and photography.
3. Researching artistic ideas and keep a kindle or word document saved to reference. Notes and Warm-upsFor the warm up put the date and day in a word document and write a brief description of what you have learned or give a response to the prompt or the presentation in class.I want a copy of work ideas and exercises also in digital word document on the desktop of the computer that you are assigned to. You may keep printed photos, notes on photos taken and research of photographers in this journal. This is also a creative tool to encourage the development of your ideas and themes for photography.
4. Taking Photographs- This is the most obvious, the most time consuming, BUT should also be the most enjoyable. You will be taking many photographs both with-in the class period and outside of class. Essential photography assignments are new this semester. Essential photography will be replacing “Homework” and will be broken down to two categories; Worldly Exploration and South HS Exploration. Essential photography will be given every week and you are expected to be taking photos not only in and around the school ( South HS Exploration) BUT also in outside environments(Worldly Exploration). Your selection of subject outside of the school day and environment is what will give you your voice and direction into your true interest and subjects of photography. Failure to do work outside of the class period will also equate to a failure of the class.
5. Weekly Evaluation: Students will be graded each week on self-direction and art quality. This is a progress grade of a weekly indication of your performance and engagement in the class. Students are asked to shoot 50 photos per week.
Materials:
A. Camera is required for the course and should bring this to class every block day with a cable that will connect to a USB port to download images. A great deal of work to be truly individual must be shot outside of the regular class.
B. In addition a 15$ fee is needed to: print photos and pay for ink cartridges to sustain this new exciting program. A portable USB stick will be given to the students once they have paid the fee.

Notes: There are unlimited possibilities when it comes to using light in portraits. Side-lighting can create mood, back lighting and silhouetting your subject to hide their features can be powerful. |
